Before practising Balancing Belle, my panic attacks looked and felt like this:
A racing heart
Feeling faint and dizzy
Feeling sock or nauseous
Experiencing hot flushes
Need to constantly go to the toilet
Feeling disconnected from the environment, as if i am not really there or it is different or strange somehow
Sweating
Shakey
Pains in arms
Pins and needles
My thoughts:
I am going to die
I am abou tto collapse or faint
I am about to lose co trol of my bowels
I am going mad
I am about to vomit
I am making a complete fool of myself in front of others
I am being really stupid
My behaviour:
An overwhelming need to escape the situation and return to a place of safety.
A desire to avoid the places or situations where I have had previous panic attacks
Fear of new places or closed spaces.
Note to self:
People faint because their blood pressure is too low and not enough oxygen is getting to the brain. In a panic attack your heart beats faster than usual and your blood pressure rises. This is exactly the opposite of what happens when you faint, So IT CAN'T HAPPEN!
I am not cured (as that will never happen) and recently came out of recovery, but I am working hard to get myself back there and I have done it before and so will do it again.
